Life Membership

A program for an eligible individual who gives a lifelong commitment to Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) and plans to be active in contributing to the ongoing and new programs of the organization. Life membership is available to any individual who meets the eligibility requirements and who applies to a chapter for membership. There are no dues requirements for such membership.

The life member receives all benefits according to the bylaws of the chapter joined and has equal voting rights with the other members. The life member is also entitled to: attend chapter meetings; receive a free subscription to PN; receive chapter publication; receive bulletins from the National Office; and hold office at the chapter and national levels. Please note that in order to hold office at the chapter or national level the life member must receive certification from PVA’s National Secretary.

Associate Membership

A program for an individual who has a serious interest in Kentucky-Indiana Paralyzed Veterans of America (KIPVA) goals and programs as well as a desire to participate in them. While associate members can be helpful to the chapter, they cannot be permitted to vote, hold elected office, take over its leadership, change its direction, or in any way detract from the members’ prerogatives.

While associate members can be helpful to the chapter, they cannot be permitted to vote, hold elected office, take over its leadership, change its direction, or in any way detract from the members&rsquo; prerogatives.</p> <p><a target="_blank" href="/uploads/9/File/associate_app.pdf">Download associate membership application. </a><br /> </p> Qualifications http://www.kipva.org/site/member/qualifications.html 2008-08-29T07:53:48Z <p>Membership in the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) is available to individuals who: suffer a spinal cord injury as a result of trauma or disease; who served in the Armed Forces and whose separation from such service was under other than dishonorable conditions; and who are citizens of the United States of America.</p> <p>The list that follows is illustrative of injury and diseases of the spinal cord and cauda equine but is not all-inclusive. In the event an individual applies for membership with a diagnosis not specifically included on the list, the information in question will be referred to PVA&rsquo;s Chief Medical Director.</p> <p>Organic Spinal Cord and Cauda Equine Lesions Through:</p> <ol> <li>Injury &ndash; trauma with or without neuro deficit residual </li> <li>Diseases with or without neuro deficit residual: <ul> <li>Infection - viral (e.g., poliomyelitis), bacterial (e.g., tuberculosis), or parasitic (e.g., schistosomiasis) </li> <li>Inflammation - (e.g., myelitis) </li> <li>Degenerative - (e.g., multiple sclerosis (MS) or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) </li> <li>Tumors - benign (e.g., ependymoma) or malignant (e.g., sarcoma) </li> <li>Cysts - (e.g., syrinx) </li> <li>Vascular - arteriosclerosis, Inflammatory (e.g., vasculitis),&nbsp;traumatic, or congenital (e.g., a.v. malformation) </li> <li>Autoimmune - (e.g., lupus) </li> <li>Congenital - (e.g., spina bifida) </li> <li>Constrictive - (e.g., spinal stenosis) </li> </ul> </li> </ol> <p>A veteran with any of the following pathological entities without involvement of the spinal cord or cauda equine is not eligible for membership:</p> <ul> <li>*CVA (stroke) </li> <li>*Osteoarthritis </li> <li>*Peripheral neuropathy </li> <li>*Toxic neuropathy (neuritis) </li> <li>*Amputation </li> </ul> <p>If you qualify for membership, then download the <a href="/uploads/9/File/Membership Application1.pdf">membership application</a>, fill out completely and mail to <font face="Georgia" color="#121212">Kentucky-Indiana Paralyzed Veterans of America (</font>KIPVA).</p> <p>If you do not qualify for membership, perhaps you would like to become an associate member. You may become an associate free of charge, but we have a subscription fee for our monthly newsletter. The yearly subscription fee for the Outreach newsletter is $15.00, same as last year.
